Thyroid pain is any discomfort or pain that originates from your thyroid gland due to problems and diseases within the thyroid gland. Thyroid tumors or thyroid cancer can cause severe and unbearable pain around the neck or other locations depending on where the cancer has spread to from the gland.

Thyroid cancer begins with the development of an extra mass of cells called “tumor” in the thyroid gland. Approximately, 1.2 percent of all men and women are diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Radioiodine therapy is a nuclear treatment for an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) and thyroid cancer. Radioactive iodine is an isotope of iodine that emits radiation and is used for medical purposes. A very small dose of I-131 is swallowed, which gets absorbed into the bloodstream.
